About Buttermilk Cottage
There REALLY is a Buttermilk Cottage...
..It's a 1900 bungalow where I create the items you see in my shop.
Twenty plus years ago I started Buttermilk Cottage.
I was part owner of a yarn shop at the time. My partners and I were having trouble finding a knitting bag to carry in the shop, so I started making some and selling them there. On a shop visit, one of our yarn reps saw my bags and needle cases and said she'd like to carry them as part of her line. I have been making and selling bags and needle cases since. Many of them were carried in yarn shops along the East coast for several years. Today I devote myself to running Buttermilk Cottage as an online retail shop. Although my bags are designed and made with the knitter in mind, they are great for travel and any other place you might need a tote bag.
My selection of needle cases emphasizes organization and they can be made to coordinate with the bags, making a lovely assortment for all your knitting projects.
"Get organized…you'll have more time for knitting!"
Perhaps you are not a knitter and have no real need for tote bags. That's okay because I AM a knitter and as a result, have lots of wonderful knitwear in my shop too. I specialize in smaller articles, such as hats, scarves, cowls, and mittens. Occasionally you will find a larger project listed too. I love yarn and what you can do with it. My knitting passion is to combine lots of different yarns, textures and colors when I knit. You will see this reflected in many of the pieces I sell.
Out of this passion grew my own boutique yarn, FUSION, which can also be purchased in my shop. It is a combination of a dozen or more different yarns I cut and tie together. When knitted, it creates a unique texture and colorway.

Decor is another interest. Since I use lots of knitted pillows in my home, I began making "Sweater Pillow" covers from up cycled sweaters. I fell in love with the process and the resulting covers. You will find them in my little shop too.
Because I work with wool so much my love of sheep has grown
"…boutique bags and beyond."
Buttermilk Cottage is a one woman operation. Everything is made in my small sewing room/office by me. I do all the supply purchasing, product design and production, photography, packing, shipping. I'm usually working at it most days and can truely say,
"I love my job!"
